Improving Operational Integrity through Teamwork
This paper reports the results of a seven-year project conducted at
ARCO Marine, Inc. The project was designed to boost operational integrity
(reduction of accidents and injuries) in the company's fleet of crude-oil
and petroleum products tankers. The paper describes the history of
the project and presents data showing marked improvements in all areas
of operational integrity over the course of the project. Insights
into the personal and interpersonal dynamics of teamwork produced
by the project are also reported as are several unique tools and methods
used to enhance teamwork.
The Team Player
Zeroing In on High Leverage Team Behaviors This paper reports the
results of a study identifying behavioral and decision style profiles
characteristic of individuals seen by team-mates as superior team
players. The study draws upon a data base of over 8,000 peer ratings
of 850 individuals, and a smaller database linking peer ratings of
team behavior effectiveness to decision style profiles of 312 individuals.
